411 on Podcasting...(rough)...
...i'm at the 411 session...no connection, so i'll have to upload these later...or maybe i'll figure out how to beam it to my treo...i wonder if this laptop has an infrared port...hmmm...
...anyway...the presenters are getting a bit distracted by the "freeflow" format, but in their defense, there are a few users that have no idea what a podcast is, other than a way to distribute media...but hey, that's why it's a 411 session...
...the gist is that vcasts are new, and there's no standard as yet...(just another side trak)...
...the speakers recommend audacity for pc recording, and it's also available for mac...they are using garage band for mac...
...pod catchers ...ipodderX, etc...
...consumer mics and pro quality mics...iTalk for ipod has a low bitrate, and so isn't very useful...they are using a iRiver with a mic to do their demo upload...
...they recommend the sure sm57 microphone for higher end recording...studio quality..XLR (needs a preamp)...or you can use a
cheap mixer...
the recommend 44.1k samble rate (cd quality) and 128 bit rate (for music, 30-60 for voice only [advanced>>custom in
itunes])...44.1 is required for flash web players...use mono if you're speaking...stereo if you're using music or other
recording samples...(music, etc.)...
...set your ID3 tag...names the podcast in the catcher...also helpful to put in a date or episode number in the first 10
letters...physical limit of 17 chars with a standard iPod screen...
...you can put show notes in lyrics...(in itunes)...
...add the picture (album art) to ...
...free upload/storage...gcast.com...libsyn.com...
